Python, Arduino and connected objects

by Ankit Daftery (speaking)

Section
Embedded Python
Technical level
Intermediate

Objective

This talk opens up a list of possibilities about how a little Python scripting can be used to leverage a lot of Internet APIs and the Arduino platform to quickly prototype and build useful "connected objects" either for automation, convenience, or sheer fun.

Description

The session will begin with a brief introduction to the Python tools that exist for hardware, and Arduino in particular, and will proceed to how they can be used in conjunction with several APIs provided by popular (and not-so-well-popular) services. The session will try to cover various approaches possible for implementing trivial to complex hardware based applications, ranging from dataloggers to ubiquitous connected objects, and from robots to mobile activated interactive installations.

Speaker bio

I am currently an Interaction Designer + Creative Technologist at Arduino India.

I use hardware, software and data constructively to provide tools that empower people to create and communicate. I love building digital objects and fun, quirky electronic projects, and keep on prototyping in my free time. I enjoy teaching technology, and use my making experience to keep on improving how I teach.

I try to take technology and try to add a human touch to it, to make it friendlier, and more useful.

I have been working a lot on the Arduino Yun + Web API enabled projects using Python as a scripting language, and am also focussing on teaching beginners and intermediate users how to program for web-enabled hardware.
