Bluetooth Smart with Python : Future of IoT
by Anuj Deshpande (speaking)
Objective
The talk will introduce the audience to Bluetooth Low Energy and it's applications. I will be talking about developing applications using Python for Internet of Things, with a focus on BLE.
Description
BLE aka Bluetooth Smart is the latest standard developed by the Bluetooth SIG. It enables you to connect smartphones to low power sensors that run off coin cell batteries for years. Kickstarter projects using BLE range from object trackers, robots, game consoles & smart wallets.
The talk will discuss some salient features of the BLE protocol and implementations of it in Python. I will be creating a simple hardware 'hello world' on stage to give an idea about developing and testing applications for BLE.
- Introduction to BLE
- Why BLE for all your IoT needs ?
- (P)iBeacon
- Get started with development
- What kind of applications are possible
- Showcase 1-2 applications using BeagleBone Black and Raspberry Pi
- Interesting projects that are being done using Python in open source hardware
Speaker bio
I use Python with OpenCV, Django, Beautiful Soup as well as for interfacing sensors on RPi & BBB.
I previously interned with BeagleBoard.org and was part of the Userspace Arduino project.
I work on BeaglePilot in my spare time.
I am an Embedded Systems Engineer at RHC and work on creating new applications using BLE.
