Revolutionize the Web with Python - Brython

Antriksh Verma (~antriksh)

How many of you have wondered, when can you use Python to replace JavaScript? Well, what if I told you that the wait is over.

Brython is web technology built on JavaScript and Python. It is basically, an implementation of Python 3 in the browser. It supports almost all features which JavaScript supports like DOM Manipulation, events and interaction with JavaScript libraries like jQuery, Vue.js, Highcharts etc.

The main purpose of this presentation is to outline the way Brython is executed and a working example of Brython itself. This talk is also supposed to educate Pythonistas about the possibilities of Python in the web.

I will also discuss and compare JavaScript and Brython (and what each of those bring to the table). But the main focus is the understanding you get from these technologies and hopefully, this talk can help you form your own opinions about such technologies and which technology to use in which scenario.

A Quick Flow of the Talk:

  • Python in the Browser (Introduction to Brython)
  • Example of Brython through a project
  • Explanation on Brython (How is it executed?)
  • Comparison with JavaScript

  • Basics of Python
  • Basic JavaScript (Optional but recommended)
